The Jacksonville Jaguars have a new sack leader.
Josh Allen, the Jaguars' first-round pick drafted seventh overall in 2019, met and surpassed the former single-season sack record in Jacksonville franchise history during the Jaguars' contest with the Carolina Panthers at home inside EverBank Stadium.
When Allen sacked Carolina rookie quarterback, and 2023 first-overall pick, on the Panthers' third drive of the game to force the Panthers to punt, he tied former Jaguars defensive end Calais Campbell with 14.5 sacks in a season as a Jaguar.
On the very next Carolina possession, Allen would sack Young again and force the Panthers to punt yet again, with this sack raising Allen to a place no Jaguar has ever been since their debut as an National Football League (NFL) franchise in 1995. This sack gave him 15.5 sacks here in the 2023-24 season, making him the all-time franchise leader for sacks in a single season.
The first of these two sacks on Young was for an 11-yard loss and the second sending Carolina back seven yards.
Campbell's former Jacksonville franchise-record 14.5 sacks came in the 2017-18 campaign.
