According to my sources, Nunzio Campanile, who was hired in 2023 by former head coach Dino Babers to oversee the tight ends, will now have the role of quarterbacks coach under new Syracuse Orange head coach Fran Brown.
Campanile has led the room that has featured Oronde Gadsden II and Dan Villari and will now be mentoring transfer quarterback Kyle McCord, who came from the Ohio State Buckeyes, as well as all signal-callers for the Orange.
He is currently completing his duties as interim head coach for Syracuse, a title he was chosen for after the university decided to part ways with Babers prior to the final home and regular season game of the 2023 campaign. a match-up that concluded with the Orange winning 35-31 and punching their ticket to the Boca Raton Bowl, where Campanile gets his second opportunity to serve as team leader in 2023.
Before joining the Syracuse staff, Campanile was a member of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights' staff, coaching the running backs in 2018 and then moving to the tight ends in 2019. Also in 2019, Campanile would become the interim head coach for the final eight games that year. He would be their tight ends coach from 2020-22 as well as spend time as interim offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Rutgers.
Prior to his time with the Scarlet Knights, Campanile was the head coach of the football program at Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, New Jersey and aided his team to a New Jersey state title in 2017.
From 2000-09, Campanile was the offensive coordinator at Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, Jersey. During his 10 seasons on the Don Bosco staff, the team won six state titles and a national championship in 2009.
