Shrader Says Yes the Second Time Around

Article by Dan Tortora

Shrader signed to be under Joe Moorhead when he wrote his name on the dotted line to join the Mississippi State Bulldogs, but he only had one season with Moorhead before Moorhead was let go.

As a true freshman, Shrader went 88-for-153 (57.5%) for 1,170 yards, eight touchdowns, and five interceptions.

He also ran for 587 yards, averaging 5.2 yards per carry, and totaled six rushing touchdowns.

In the 2020 campaign, his sophomore season, Shrader was moved to wide receiver under new head coach Mike Leach.

Shrader played at Charlotte Christian in Charlotte, North Carolina, and had previously been recruited and offered by Syracuse.

He also had offers out of high school from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Indiana, Louisville, Missouri, Ole Miss, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Wake Forest, and West Virginia, among others.

Shrader joins what could be an open quarterback competition with Tommy DeVito who has had the most experience as a starter for the Orange, and will be coming off of an injury, as well as JaCobian Morgan and Dillon Markiewicz who had playing time this season, and incoming 2021 signee Justin Lamson out of the state of California.
