Benny Williams Officially Enters Portal

The back-and-forth will-they, won't-they relationship with the Syracuse Orange men's basketball team and Benny Williams is now officially over.

Williams came to the Orange through recruitment when Jim Boeheim was still the head coach of the team. He played high school ball at St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Maryland followed by time at IMG Academy in Florida.

Last season, in his 47th and final year at the helm of the Syracuse Orange, Boeheim did not have Williams in attendance for a game in the Dome.

This season, first-time head coach Adrian Autry did not play Williams in multiple games, with Williams being available and then suddenly not, appearing and disappearing from the active list until Syracuse University put out a press release that Williams was dismissed from the program.

So Williams entering the NCAA transfer portal comes as no surprise as he was not a part of the team before the officially end to the 2023-24 season.

Over three seasons, Williams has averaged 16.7 minutes per game, shooting 41.5% from the field, including 29% from beyond the arc. He is 60.9% from the charity stripe for his career, and averages 4.8 points per game, 3.1 rebounds per game, 0.7 assists per game, 0.7 steals per game, 0.4 blocks per game, 0.9 turnovers per game, and 1.2 fouls per game.

He has one season of eligibility remaining after starting his collegiate career in the 2021-22 campaign.
