The nation’s leader in passing yards for all Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), also known as NCAA Division I-A football, programs is moving on to provide his services to the professional level.
Kyle McCord, who had filed for a waiver from the NCAA to grant him another season of eligibility, has chosen to pursue a place in the National Football League (NFL) instead.
He played in more than four games in all of his four collegiate seasons, but the waiver could have potentially provided another season of eligibility as a means of forgiving a fifth game that McCord played in as a true freshman where he came in for the end of a game where his team had the lead and were looking for him to simply close out the contest.
McCord spent his first three seasons with the Ohio State Buckeyes, becoming a starter in his Thor season there, and then transferred to the Syracuse Orange football program for this past season.
He leaves Syracuse as the single-season leader in passing touchdowns and in passing yards, two records formerly held by Orange alum Ryan Nassib.
McCord also became the single-season all-time leader in passing yards for the entire Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC)?, moving past Clemson Tigers’ alum Deshaun Watson.
Choosing to enter the NFL Draft in 2025 makes sense for McCord with him ending the season atop all passers of over 130 FBS programs in passing yards and the quarterback pool for this draft not having any clear top prospect.
