Mike Lindberg, a 1979 graduate of Le Moyne College, has been named the Interim Athletics Director.
This decision from the school comes as a result of former Athletics Director Bob Beretta leaving for his Alma Mater of Saint Bonaventure University,
Lindberg returns to Le Moyne with leadership experience in his service as the director of athletics at Wells College as well as associate director of intercollegiate athletics at Ithaca College prior to that.
He will begin his interim role on Thursday, June 20, 2024.
"I am honored for the opportunity to serve my alma mater as the interim director of athletics and would like to thank President Linda LeMura and Board of Trustees Chair Peter DiLaura for the opportunity to bridge the leadership transition until a new director is selected," Lindberg expressed.
“I look forward to working collaboratively with the Le Moyne community and the accomplished coaches, sports medicine team, communications and administrative staff as we prepare our student-athletes for an exciting 2024-25 in Division I and the Northeast Conference."
Lindberg will be in this role while Le Moyne College begins their worldwide search for the next leader of their athletic department.
"I've known Mike for many years and am confident that his impressive experience will allow him to seamlessly move into this role," Le Moyne College President Linda LeMura offered.
“I’m grateful that Mike has agreed to serve in this capacity as Le Moyne prepares for our second year in Division I."
His return to “The Heights” comes with 40+ years of experience in higher education, including 25+ years experience in the collegiate athletic realm
At Ithaca College from 1998 through 2014, as associate director of intercollegiate athletics, Lindberg was part of a department that fielded 27 varsity teams with 800 student-athletes, and a budget of $3.8 million.
Before his time in athletics at the school, he spent 16 years in student development at Ithaca College.
In his role as director of athletics at Wells College from 2014 to 2023, he had 16 varsity sports to look after.
While at Wells, Lindberg oversaw the design and construction of a $2.4 million multipurpose turf facility, along with lending his time, knowledge, and wisdom, teaching sports management, sport psychology, and college success.
The 1979 graduate received his Bachelor’s Degree in business administration. Lindberg was a student-athlete himself, competing on the men’s soccer team.
His wife, Bonita, also graduated from Le Moyne in 1979.
Le Moyne is actively searching for who will be their long-term leader in the Dolphins athletic department.
Their search committee will include faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
