The Syracuse Orange men's basketball program, who finished 20-12 overall, including an 11-9 showing in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) regular season in Adrian Autry's first season as head coach, were not selected to the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
But, there was a potential window to go the NIT (National Invitational Tournament), which is the next national tournament under that of the NCAA.
However, Syracuse University was not interested in accepting a postseason berth outside of the NCAA Tournament.
In a statement sent to me by Syracuse University Athletics, the school offered some clarity on the situation, writing, "We communicated to the ACC, prior to the bracket announcement, that we would not participate in the NIT."
So, whether or not the NIT was even considering Syracuse remains unknown.
The Orange simply turned down an offer that was not necessarily even going to come their way.
