Syracuse University opened up their head football coach opportunity following a 31-22 road loss to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, with Director of Athletics John Wildhack informing Dino Babers that he would not return next season.
Less than two weeks later, Syracuse had had in-person interviews with Holy Cross Head Coach Bob Chesney and Toledo Head Coach Jason Candle.
Then, the name Fran Brown emerged.
Brown has northeast ties with his work on the Temple staff on two separate occasions as well as at Rutgers.
He, most recently, has been an assistant on the Georgia Bulldogs' staff, including the 2022 season where the team won the College Football Playoff National Championship.
Despite not having any head-coaching experience, he is now expected to move on from the Southeastern Conference (SEC) to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) as the new head coach of the Orange football program, with official word anticipated this week.
Brown is a native of Camden, New Jersey.
